Ami Mavani grew up in Bombay, India with physician parents inspiring her into the art of healing. She graduated with top honors in ENT, Pharmacology and Ophthalmology from one of the largest and most reputed medical schools in Asia, affiliated with King Edward Memorial Hospital, opening the door for a profession in any field she chose. She pursued medical research for a short while but returned to her first love, pediatrics, when she missed the children too much. She served her residency at Childrens Hospital of Michigan, Detroit. She is board certified in Pediatrics and Holistic Medicine.
Her hobbies include oil painting, flower arrangements, gardening, cooking and exploring the ancient cultures in far away lands with her husband Pankaj. Her son Krishna gives her the perpective of a mom that she feels has helped her tremendously in understanding the needs of her patients and their parents. He has taken after his mom and loves to cook and paly doctor with her! She is actively involved in raising funds for UNICEF, the United Nations Childrens Fund, and in raising monies for scholarships to aid impoverished children.
Besides her love for all pediatrics, her special interests include nutrition, obesity, headache and asthma management, as well as the use of alternative medicine in conjunction with traditional medicine. Ami’s philosophy is that a basis for a healthy fulfilled life starts in childhood and she hopes to help and teach families about themselves to help them make better choices for their children.
